About 66Colorful
Color is the most powerful, least understood tool in design. 66Colorful exists to change that — turning the guesswork of choosing, converting, and combining color into something fast, accurate, and genuinely enjoyable for designers, developers, and anyone building for the web.
Why "66Colorful"?
The name is a small tribute to Route 66 — the legendary highway that cuts across the United States from Chicago to Santa Monica. Drive it end to end and you pass through almost every color nature has to offer: the red rock deserts of Arizona, the golden plains of Oklahoma, the deep greens of the Ozarks, the painted skies over New Mexico, and the Pacific blue waiting at the coast.
That stretch of road is a reminder that color isn't decoration — it's experience, memory, and place. We built 66Colorful in that same spirit: a journey through the full spectrum, where every hue has a story and a purpose. The "66" is the road; the "Colorful" is everything you see along the way.
What we believe
Good color decisions shouldn't require a color science degree. They shouldn't mean juggling six browser tabs to convert a single value, or shipping a palette that fails accessibility checks because nobody had an easy way to test it. We believe the right tool, available the moment you need it, removes the friction between a designer's intent and a finished, polished result.
So we set out to build the most complete, accurate, and approachable color toolkit on the web — one place to explore, convert, analyze, and apply color with confidence.
What 66Colorful does
66Colorful is a growing suite of free, browser-based color tools covering the entire color workflow — from first inspiration to production-ready code. Whatever stage you're at, there's a tool built for it:
Explore and create
Start with an idea and run with it. Spin the color wheel to build harmonies, generate smooth blends with the gradient generator, or browse hundreds of ready-made combinations in our curated palettes. Need a starting point fast? The random palette generator gets you moving in one click.
Convert with precision
Every color model, one consistent place. Move between formats instantly with the color converter, or jump straight to the conversion you need — HEX to RGB, HEX to HSL, HEX to CMYK, or modern OKLCH to HEX for the latest CSS color workflows.
Design accessibly
Beautiful and usable are not a trade-off. Test color pairings against WCAG standards with the contrast checker, audit whole palettes in the palette accessibility matrix, and see your work the way colorblind users do with the color blindness simulator. Accessibility isn't an afterthought here — it's built into the toolkit.
Ship to production
Bridge the gap between design and code. Generate framework-ready scales with the Tailwind scale generator, reference complete system palettes like Tailwind, Material, and Bootstrap colors, and export clean variables with the design token exporter.
And when you just want to understand a single color in depth — its conversions, contrast behavior, harmonies, and tints and shades — every shade has its own dedicated page. Curious where to start? Browse the full color library.
Our colors
Because we're a color company, we hold ourselves to our own standard. The 66Colorful identity is built on a small, deliberate palette — warm enough to feel human, bright enough to feel alive, balanced for accessibility across light and dark interfaces:
- Highway Sunset — the warm, energetic core of the brand
- Pacific Cyan — the cool counterpoint, echoing the coast at the end of the road
- Desert Gold — the glow of open plains and golden hour
- Asphalt — grounding neutral for text and structure
Want to see how a palette like this comes together? You can explore each of these on its own color page or rebuild the whole set in our color harmony generator.
Who we're for
66Colorful is built for the people who work with color every day and the people just starting out:
- Designers building brand systems, UI kits, and palettes that need to look intentional and stay consistent.
- Developers who need accurate conversions, copy-ready CSS, and color values that behave the same in code as they do in the mockup.
- Product and UX teams shipping interfaces that have to be accessible, legible, and on-brand at the same time.
- Students, hobbyists, and the color-curious who simply want to learn how color works and experiment without barriers.
Our promise
Every tool on 66Colorful is free to use, runs right in your browser, and is designed to do one job well. We're constantly adding new tools, refining the ones we have, and writing in-depth guides on our blog to help you make better color decisions — whether that's mastering OKLCH, nailing contrast ratios, or designing palettes that work for everyone.
Color shaped every mile of Route 66, and it shapes every screen you design. We're here to help you get it right.
